Julian Jackson

“Speed of Light”

After 20 years of running Cooper Classics - the world renowned car emporium, Elliot Cuker presents the opening of The Cooper Classics Collection.  This gallery, at 137 Perry St. (in charming Greenwich Village) will constantly feature a combination of both art and classic cars.  At this inaugural exhibition, Elliot Cuker is pleased to present, “Speed of Light,” – new paintings by Julian Jackson and a selection of classic American and Foreign sports cars.  Pulsing with color and speed, Jackson’s paintings are a visual joyride.  Areas of cascading color contrast with deep spatially complex passages, creating an optical field that shimmers and flows.  Rhythmic, and abstract, these paintings fuse the elemental intensity of wind, waves or torrential rain with the excitement and raw energy of an urban street.

They excite us with their sleek, dynamic forms, rich detailing and enormous fantasy potential. As in the recent motorcycle show at The Guggenheim Museum, this combination of fine art and fine design reveals an unexpected and powerful synergy. We want to jump into the fast, fabulous cars and drive right into the experience of Julian Jackson’s vibrant new paintings.

Julian Jackson’s
paintings are concurrently on view at the Islip Art Museum, NY. He has exhibited in numerous galleries and museums. In NYC this year, he was featured at White Columns, Kentler International Drawing Space, BWAC Redhook Terminal, and The D.U.M.B.O. Art Festival. Jackson’s paintings are included in Universal Pictures’ hit movie, The Best Man. They are prominently featured in Big Eden, a film about a New York artist, which premiered in January 2000 at The Berlin Film Festival. Jackson has been the recipient of fellowships at McDowell, Millay and The Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. In spring 2001, he was awarded membership in The American Artist’s Association.
