In September of 2000 we began our transition from the East Coast's finest Classic Car Service, Restoration, and Sales facility to the East Coast's most unique Classic Car and Photography Gallery. We were continuing our tradition of selling some of the finest cars in the world; however, these rolling pieces of art were now on display with some of the finest works in photography in our upscale gallery in the West Village of New York City. In an effort to rid ourselves of some of the "relics" in our garage we came across a VW Bug that had been sitting for over 8 years, but looked like it had been sitting for 100. This is a car that might belong to a starving artist, but certainly didn't belong in an Art Gallery next to a collectiion of some of the finest cars in the world. The Bug was promptly put on Ebay to be disposed of. This was one of our first transactions on Ebay, and a lesson was learned very quickly. The auction ended succesfully, and the winning bidder arrived to pick up the car. The new owners were quite satisfied with our description of the car, and everything was found to be in order and accurate. Our staff explained to them repeatedly that the car had not been driven for a number of years, and it should not be driven to their home in upstate New York. The new owners insisted on driving the car, despite our warnings, and off they went. The bug was gone. Or so we thought. The new owners called from the West Side Highway. The Bug had quit on them. After making the owners aware of the fact that we had warned them not to drive a car that had been sitting for 8 years they insisted that we had misrepresented the car. On good faith we offered to fully refund their money. The new owners refused, which was strange (and indicative of the type of people we were dealing with), and we soon recieved our first, and only, instance of Negative Feedback. We have sold world-class cars to Billionaires, CEOs, and Kings. We have built an outstanding reputation selling the finest automobiles in the world. Yet, in one of our first endeavors on Ebay we were bitten by quite a nasty Bug. Buyer Beware? Seller Beware! |
