This
1963 220SE Convertible is Silver with a Red leather interior and
a Black Top. It was originally purchased by one of the heiresses
to the SC Johnson fortune. She eventually sold the car at a fundraiser
to M.S. Koly, a renowned and fastidous classic car collector who
has a collection of award winning classic automobiles. The gentleman
had the car completely restored to perfection by a renowned classic
car restoration facility on the east coast, Black Horse Garage.
In 2000 he sold the car to a collector in California who kept the
car properly maintained until it was sold to its 4th owner in the
Hamptons (NY) who recently sold the car to Cooper Classics. The
current odometer reading of 56,000 kilmoters (34,000 miles) is thought
to be original.
This is one of the finest
restored 220SE convertibles we have offered for sale. Everything
on the car was either replaced or rebuilt. The car was stripped
to bare metal and repainted, the interior was completely redone
including wood, leather interior, and carpeting. The brightwork
is excellent. All of the mechanical components were rebuilt, including
the engine, and the car has always been properly maintained including
a recent service by a Master Mercedes mechanic (Tune Up, New Brakes,
etc.). A restoration to this degree would cost at least $150,000
and take three years to complete, assuming you can find an excellent
and rust free example to start with.
