Offered for sale is this beautifully original and well-maintained 1971 280SL, in its factory color combination of Silver Grey Metallic over Black Leather interior. The car comes to us from a long-time owner who happens to be a world renowned actress. She used this car exclusively as a summer vehicle in the Hamptons, where it was regularly maintained by a well-regarded Mercedes specialist.

The car is in superb condition both mechanically and cosmetically. The original interior is excellent all around showing few signs of wear. An upgraded sound system and head unit has been installed, and all new interior wood trim has been installed. Especially notable on this vehicle is the original factory installed Kinder seat, a very rare option indeed. The car has also received a fresh respray in its original Silver Grey Metallic. To complement the beautiful new paint, most of the chrome on the car was professionally replated, or replaced completely.

Since receiving the car, we have had it completely refreshed mechanically. This includes going through all fluids, belts, suspension, brakes, rear end, and transmission. The entire engine compartment was redone exactly to factory specification. This included removing all wiring, hoses, and hard linesreplacing or refurbishing parts where necessaryand then reinstalling all items correctly. At the same time the entire engine area was detailed, and it shows beautifully today.

The car starts up with a single bump of the key, drives like a dream, and shifts smoothly and correctly. With a car so frequently victim to over-restoration it is nice to see an example which maintains originality without any sacrifice towards drivability. The car comes with its matching hardtop, service records, original jack, original wheel chock, and spare.
