Offered for sale here is an authentic 1965 Shelby Cobra 289 in handsome Midnight Black with Black interior. The car comes from the collection of its first owner, who ordered the car from Shelby American in 2010. This is one of the continuation series cars that Carroll Shelby began to produce 10 or 15 years ago. This car is from CSX8000-series, which represents the original street version that Carroll Shelby started to build in the 1960s. Less than 200 cars have been produced in this series so far, and lead time for a new order is 1-2 years!
The Cobra street roadster is the car credited with starting the muscle car era in 1962. This CSX8000-series Cobra is modeled after the original car but with some modern upgrades in materials and design that incorporate safety and performance improvements without sacrificing driving excitement or originality.The body and chassis were completed in Las Vegas by Shelby American, the car afterwards was sent to the dealer, Planet Cobra of Atlanta, Georgia, who installed the engine and drive train. The previous owner took delivery of the car from Planet Cobra in January 2012. This car comes equipped with an orgiginal Hi-Po 289 engine, with ceramic headers leading to the full under-car exhaust. While this engine was originally equipped with two four-barrel carbuerators, the previous owner decided to invest in the highly advanced (and very expensive!) Eight Stack electronic injection system. This modern computerized fuel-injection system makes all the difference in terms of driveability, and significantly improves performance. This car produces close to 450 HP! Mated to the 289 is a Tremec TKO five-speed transmission with McLeod hydraulic clutch and a 3.54 Shelby/Salisbury posi-trac differential, making for a very street-friendly setup. The 4 DOM steel tube frame, Shelby/Wilwood disc brakes, and rugged handlaid fiberglass coachwork all make for a sturdy, direct, and confidence inspiring drive. The car has the original type Stewart Warner gauges, 15" Moto-Lita hardwood-rimmed steering wheel, heater & defroster, and glovebox. This particular car was also optioned with triple-chromed original style bumperettes and hoops, as well as a 14-gallon fuel tank and gauge. The car comes with its soft top, pop in windows, matching spare wheel, and all documentation.
