1960 Merceds-Benz 220SE Cabriolet

 Offered for sale here is a remarkably well restored and maintained Red 220SE Cabriolet. The car has had only four owners since new, one of whom was the leading east coast Mercedes parts dealers at the time. This gentleman gave the car a complete cosmetic restoration in 2003, receiving new paint, new leather, and new seats. The interior was redone and presents extraordinarily well, in an eye catching combination of glossy Birdseye maple and supple tan leather. The car retains its original functioning becker radio, and the no longer availableand highly sought afteroriginal light switch. At the same time, the gas tank was boiled and resealed, and the undercarriage was cleaned and repainted. The brakes were completely rebuilt, and all rubber was replaced throughout the car.

In 2012, the car was gone through mechanically by another established Mercedes collector. A new wiring harness and an electric Pertronix ignition unit was installed with new wires and plugs, as is common practice among 220SE owners, and the distributor was rebuilt. The entire engine compartment (including fuel lines and injectors) received cad plating, which offers superior corrosion protection and is applied at a low thickness. The injectors and distribution blocks were also cleaned and recalibrated, and the car received a new exhaust. The convertible top and headliner were replaced (due to moth damage), along with the matching tan boot cover. 

The result of this work is a car that is reliable, correct, and can look the part either for show or as a regularly driven classic. Changing gears is effortless with the unique four-speed column shifter, and the car offers a comfortable ride for everyone from the driver to the backseat passenger. The car starts with a single push of the button, and purrs quietly at idle. Driving top down in this gorgeous, well running, classic Mercedes is a grand experience.

Included with the sale are the original owner's manuals, the original engine compartment light, original toolkit in leather case, and a light-up "D" (for Deutschland) country badge that can be mounted on either front or rear bumper.
